Privacy Policy for Boxwox.com

Client
What is meant by "client" within this article?
The client is the software used to visit this website. Your client is most likely a web browser (like Firefox).

Server
What is meant by "server" within this article?
The server is the computer storing this website with the capability to deliver versions of the website to multiple clients.

Data Collection

This website collects information necessary to deliver TCP/IP packets across the internet from this server to your client. Any of these topics can be involved with that client/server interaction process.
  • HTTP Cookies
  • HTTP Headers
  • SSL Certificates
  • IP Addresses
  • User Agent string
Data from the above sources is stored long enough to deliver content and maintain a session (for continued discussion between server and client). Website locations visited are stored for internal analytical purposes. This website is using a hosting company that will have their own data collection policies. Those privacy policies should be researched separately.

Data Storage on Server

Any statistical data stored is in long-term storage and can be stored in other physical locations (in the form of back-ups) but does not contain any PII (Personally Identifiable Information).

Data Distribution

No data from this website is sold or given to any advertisers. There is no relationship with any advertisers. Any data collected is only used for internal statistical tracking. Any graphical information about those statistics made public (for articles or case studies) is not intended to reveal website visitors in ways that can be used to market or track their personal, online habits.
Data Storage on Client

Cookies

Cookies are used by the PHP session to recognize repetitious requests from the same user during a "session". A session is a timed event where sessions are generated then eventually expired. Expired sessions destroy all data completely from the server. Expiration of sessions can occur when you "Logout" of this site or when there has not been a request for information from the server (by you) for a set amount of time.
Cookies - Cleaning Up
How is this website affected if I delete my browser cookies?
You will be logged out. You will receive a new cookie and session generated from PHP if you continue to visit the site by loading another web page.

Local Storage

Local Storage is an ability your browser has to store key/value pairs of data. All Local Storage is specific to the sites you visit and sites cannot see or use the data from other sites (by design - see cross-origin rules). The data stored in Local Storage is in your browser and not stored on the website server. It could be stored on both the server and client but there is no interest in tracking it server-side at this time.
Local Storage is used on this website to maintain persistence for the "Preview Panel" at the top of pages. The Preview Panel allows you to save snippets then visit 2 pages side by side or 1 page at a time. Because this storage is client-side, you have control of when it is destroyed by using your browser tools. In addition to the tools offered by the browser, you will find a button labeled "Reset all Preview data" on the Preview Panel. Clicking the "Reset all Preview data" button will ask your browser to clear all of your Local Storage for this site.
Local Storage - Cleaning Up
How is this website affected if I clear the Local Storage in my browser?
All data in the Preview Panel will be cleared. The Preview Panel is at the top of the pages on this website. The Preview Panel is hidden or shown by clicking the "+ Show Preview" / "- Hide Preview" text just below the navigation menu at the top of pages.

AJAX

AJAX is used on this website to get data from the server without requesting the entire page a second time when a small part of content could be updated with newer information, instead. AJAX data is passed behind the scenes in the browser without you "clicking a new page to visit". Instead AJAX is most often triggered when you perform a Search. When a search request is made, AJAX is used to ask the server for the responses, your page shows a visually rotating image (often called a spinner), then the server response is reviewed and the page content updated with the results (the J in AJAX short for Javascript). At that point the AJAX request is complete. There is no persistent connection or bi-directional communication once the request ends.
AJAX - Cleaning Up
There is no way to clean up AJAX because it doesn't leave manageable residue. The only potential place the data is stored on your browser is in its cache of web pages previously visited. Once the response from the server is received, the process is complete (from the browser and server perspective).
